Children of the Corn

We spent Labor Day harvesting corn. Since the peaches aren't ready to pick we didn't have anything else to do in the freezing cold 'Utah' weather. These are a few tips to harvesting corn:
Have Melissa and Chad bring Chase--he works hard!

1. You must dress for the occasion. Thanks for Shaun for leaving behind the sweats for Justin to borrow. Did Grandpa Huffaker leave behind the rubber boots for mom? Grandpa's old coveralls would be good, but we cut them up to make a quilt.

2. You need lots of helpers! It is even better if they are cute and happy!!!

3. Husk the corn. It was too cold, windy & rainy while we husked so we didn't take time to take a picture.

4. Wash the corn. Chase, Jack, Darren and (at moments) Colby were really good at helping Grandpa wash the corn (throw the corn into the cooler of water).

5. Cook the corn. Jason recommends an ipod during all harvest projects.

6. Cut the corn. Brandon, Justin, Chad & Sara rocked at cobbin'!

7. Bag the corn. Lisa, Mom, Ericka and Brandon bagged 60 quarts of corn to freeze!!!

8. EAT THE CORN!!!! (Hold on, Jack's getting some butter.)

9. Ella is a smarty pants. Her plan was to ignore everyone, including the corn, and just play soccer.

I will remember that day every time I eat corn this winter. It would have been even better if JR & Aub et al, Ben & Nat et al, Mike & Trish & Shaun could have been here. If you ever get a chance to eat this corn--no worries--we all washed our hands thoroughly.

That was a good post - loved it! If only we were there to help. Jaden and Megan would look good in Shaun's and Grandpa Huff's clothes!!

Yeah, um it's a good thing that you have to heat the corn before eating.....I'm not so sure I believe Sara! :0) We always miss out on all the fun. JR will be eSpEcIaLy sad he missed this one.....wink wink. I am pretty sure that's why we moved down here to AZ. He says it's waaaaaaay too hot to have a garden of any kind. (Not true by the way) We love and miss you guys and hope to see you real soon. I'm coming up for a couple of days in September. Hopefully everyone will be around on the 21ish.
